Let's try this again

Alright. It's about time to really do this. No more goals of "being able to run this race" or "being able to play that sport". It's time to make it a lifestyle. No "I should go for a run", it's "I'm going for a run". Sitting around doing nothing won't better myself. Here's to change!

That is all.

5K and Training

So, I did the 5k. I ran better than I thought I would! I ended up racing 34:32!! Not only that, but some people with GPS watches were saying that it was ~3.3 miles. That made me very happy.

Anyway, since then I've been playing ultimate frisbee every Saturday, and biking once or twice a week. I haven't been able to run 'cause my shins hurt too bad from pushing myself too hard at ultimate. So I have decided that until my shins get better, I'm taking a break from ultimate. This disappointed some people, but I have to do what's right for my body.

I started fencing though. A few weeks ago I started getting lessons from a friend. He's in college and only back some weekends, but I hope to train hard during the summer.

So for now I will run, practice my fencing footwork, and strength train.

That is all!!

Race Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow is my first 5k. Hopefully I'll be able to make the time that I did on Tuesday. When I realized that this week would be busy I decided that now was the time to see if I could actually run 5k. Well, I did. It took 35 minutes. I had delayed musscle soreness yesterday, but today I feel fine. The run felt fine, except that I'm still way out of shape. But my shins are fine!!!!!

Today is also opening day for "Alice in Wonderland"!! YAY!!! My wife is having all our friends over in costume for a tea party. That should be interesting, at least. Anyway, it's early enough that I should get plenty of rest. I'll try to post how I did tomorrow.

That is all.

Morning Running

The Olympics are on!! I love watching the Olympics!! Except I don't have a DVR. So from 8:00 to midnight I have to be glued to the TV in order to see any of it. That would be fine if I weren't training for a 5k...., but I am. Now I have to miss most of the Olympics so I can get to bed at a reasonable time so I can wake up at 5:00am so I have time to run in the morning (that's a lot of "so"s). Speaking of which I went for my first morning run! I hate mornings, and up until now I haven't ever gone for a run in the morning (except for one time about 6 years ago when I was going to start running and only ended up going out once). I'll be going out tomorrow, too. I won't be able to bike since we moved into a MUCH smaller place and don't have anywhere to put our bikes yet. So for now I will run. I laid out a course and hope to be able to run it at least 3 times a week. Hopefully my shins can handle it since it's on sidewalk. I'll try to keep you posted. Monday's run went we once I finally got my legs to work, so maybe tomorrow I'll be able to handle morning running better.

Finally Fully Motivated!!!

I've been biking and running since Jan. 9th. Yay!!! I'll be doing a 5K on March 6th so I really need to get in enough shape to hopefully stay sub 30:00. I did 1.2 miles yesterday in 11min. That's a 9:10 pace!!! If I can maintain that pace and increase my mileage as much as I want to every week, I should be able to do a 5K in about 28:32ish. I do hope that I can keep my training at the level that it's at without any injuries. We'll see.

That is all.

Can't Think of a Good Title :(

Well, it's been a week since my last update. Hooray for Friday!!!

Went biking on Saturday, Monday, and yesterday. Saturday I went with Danny at Starkey Park Trail. I really didn't want to ride. After the first half mile I was already wanting to turn back. But we pushed on and eventually did a 15mi. ride. I think we could have gone longer but I was worried that the weather was going to turn bad (me and my paranoia. Anyway that was a good ride. I can't remember what I did on Monday (i guess I should write in here more often). Oh, I remember now. I got a short fast ride in. Maybe 45 min. at a faster pace that normal. And yesterday I went with Jess to Walmart to get milk. It's about a 5 mile ride. She went at a pretty good clip and I get a pretty good workout. When we got back home I went around the block at the fastest speed I could maintain.

Well, that's my workouts for the last week. Maybe I'll post tomorrow after my ride.

That is all.

Intensity

I guess that even small changes in intensity and taking breaks can make a fairly big difference. 2 hours of biking at an aproximate 9 mph with breaks every 5 miles or so seemed a bit easier than 1 hour at 11-12 mph with no breaks. Or maybe it was because I did the latter the day after I did the former... Hmmmm.

That is all.
